12 Days Primate and wild Life Uganda Safari

Tour Overview

On this 12 days safari you get the chance to search for the Big 5 as well as trek in the jungle for both Mountain Gorillas and chimps. We take you on a journey through Uganda as you take in the wildlife, scenic nature and enjoy meetings with Uganda’s friendly people.

Four of the Big 5 roam freely in National Parks in Uganda, this is the lion, leopard, buffalo and elephant that you will have chance to see in Murchison Falls National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park. The 5th of the Big 5 is the rhino, that was hunted to extinction in Uganda in the 80’s. Luckily it is now being reintroduced thanks to the great efforts of Ziwa Rhino sanctuary where you will see it during this 12 days Safari.

For the Mountain Gorilla trek we will visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is the National Park that is home to the biggest numbers of Mountain Gorillas in the world. Our Chimpanzee trek is done in Kibale Forest National Park, known as a primate haven and commonly used as a recording location for documentaries about

Day 1: Pick up from the airport to your Hotel in Kampala /Entebbe

Upon arrival, you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to your hotel. Depending on the time of arrival, you can choose to have the entire briefing of your trip upon arrival or the next day.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls NP, Rhino Tracking

After breakfast early morning, the driver guide will pick you up and begin the journey to Murchison Falls National Park along a scenic drive. You will have stopover at the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary where you will track Rhinos on foot for about 90 minutes, have lunch in Masindi and then eventually proceed to the park. Once in the park, you will transfer to the top of the falls where you will enjoy views of the waters of the Nile squeeze through a narrow 7-meter gorge and drop over a 40 meters cliff below.

Day 3: Game Drive & Launch Cruise on the Nile

Today early morning you will set out on an early morning game drive in Murchison Falls NP the largest national park in Uganda during which you will be rewarded with views of different animals such as buffaloes, giraffes, Lions, elephants, Leopards, hartebeest, among others and different types of birds. You will then return to your accommodation for a late breakfast, relax and lunch.

Later in the afternoon, go for a 2 hours Launch cruise on the river Nile to the ‘Devils Cauldron’ found at the bottom of the waterfalls where you will enjoy great views of the Murchison falls and also see several animals like the giant Nile crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes and birds on the river banks.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast you will begin the long drive heading southwards to Kibale Forest National Park also known as the primate’s capital in East Africa. The park is home to 13 different primate species including the colobus monkeys, the red tailed and blue monkeys; however, the main attraction here are the chimpanzees which share 98% of their DNA with man. On arrival, check into your accommodation for dinner and the night’s rest. Along this scenic country you will drive through several towns, village settlements, farms and plantations that cover the rolling hills.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking & Bigodi Nature Walk (optional)

Today you will begin the day early morning to enjoy one of the highlights of this safari –Chimpanzee Tracking. By 8:00am you will arrive at the park headquarters where you will be briefed by the park guides about the do’s and don’ts of this activity. You will encounter several birds, butterflies, and small monkeys in the forest during the tracking which takes between 2 to 3 hours before finding the chimps. When you locate them you will take photographs and observe these very playful chimps. Then after you will go for lunch at your lodge in the afternoon there will be an optional guided nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary which is a community initiative and there your will see several birds, primates, small animals and even interact with some of the locals. Proceeds from this nature walk are used by the locals for community development in form of building schools and other initiatives.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park- Evening Game drive

Take breakfast and head to Queen Elizabeth National park. Check in your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Prepare yourself for an evening game drive to look for the big cats and antelopes. The park is blessed with dense swamps, beautiful crater lakes, open dotted savannah vegetation. Come back to the lodge for dinner and peaceful overnight

Day 7: Game Drive and a boat Cruise On Kazinga Channel

Discover Queen Elizabeth National Park in the cool morning with an early game drive that exposes us to diverse animals. Possibility to see Big 5 members Elephants, Buffalos, big cats- Lions, Leopards more times in the evening, warthogs- Hunchback carnivals like Hyenas and many more species that are residents to this park are spotted along the Circuits as we drive along. There is a rich bird life especially our version of storks in the wetland sports as we reach the Flamingoes in the salt lakes. After lunch it is time for the Classic highlight of the 2hrs boat-cruise on the famous Kazinga channel, a 36kms channel linking Lake George to lake Edward.

On the banks you can see land and water Adapted Hippopotamuses Yawning and some slashing canines to each other, the National Geographical society Killing machine the Nile Crocodile gaping along the Banks and Savannah versions of Pigs the Warthog- Pumba of the award winning Lion King are a hallmark sign in this Animal home!

Day 8: Transfer from Queen Elizabeth national park- Bwindi Forest National park via ishasha sector famous for tree climbing lions.

In the morning after breakfast we will drive off from Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi via Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth NP for a game drive in the adventurous vast savannah known for its tree-climbing lions. Here we have chance to see Topis, buffaloes, elephants and hopefully find the lions high in the Fig tree branches. This is one of two areas in Africa where lions have the habit of regularly climbing trees to take a rest and this 12 days Uganda Safari gives you the chance to experience it. After the morning game-drive, You will drive through the beautiful kigezi highlands where you will see Uganda’s beautiful terraced hills. You will have lunch en-route and later arrive in Bwindi where you will have dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Transfer on to Bwindi mountains through a beautiful drive taking you from the savanna via cultivated hills to the jungle covered mountains of Bwindi. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is the home to the forest giants that are cousins to human beings, the mountain gorillas and as the highlight of this 12 days Safari you go trekking the gorillas this day. You will be taken in a group by a specialized guide into the jungle for your gorilla trekking adventure. Trek through the beautiful nature and spend one hour with the gorillas, an unforgettable experience. This Impenetrable Forest is also full of birds, butterflies and plant species plus forest hog, forest elephants,statungas and dikers. After the Trekking we leave the mountains and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi through cultivated hills. Lake Bunyonyi is a lake at 1840m above sea level offering stunning scenery and a bit of rest. Have a free afternoon to relax by beautiful Lake Bunyonyi

Day 10: Canoeing Experience & Nature walk on Lake Bunyonyi

After our breakfast, go for a boat ride This is serpentine shaped lake fine for swimming and is bilharzia free. It also overlooks the beautiful Kigezi highlands. The lake has many islands such as Bushara, Punishment and Bwama islands. We take a boat trip on the lake discover these islands Its a good place for relaxation and taking photos of western Uganda. Return to the Hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, take an excursion of the Island of the sky; a walk that will give you a more satisfying view of this lake and most of the Islands therein. Then go to the Lodge for Dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Transfer to Lake Mburo and Evening Game Drive

After a breakfast we leave the scenic Lake Bunyonyi behind and make the journey to Lake Mburo National Park. We aim to reach the lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon we head in to the park and game drive for view of zebras, topis, warthogs, giraffes, cape buffaloes and impalas. If we are lucky we catch a sight of a leopard.

Day 12: Early Morning Safari Walk and Transfer to Entebbe /Airport

Get early up for a safari walk by the lodge chance to see zebras, waterbucks, birds and buffaloes in their day break jungle life! Go back to the lodge for breakfast before starting the transfer towards Entebbe. Along the way we make a stop by the Equator, where you can have the experience of standing with one foot on either side of the southern and northern hemisphere. Connect to Entebbe where your guide drops you in time for an evening flight as we have reached the end of your 12 days Uganda safari

Note

Gorilla tracking is dependent on the permit’s availability at the time of your booking. Gorilla permits in all parks are on a very high demand and we advise that you book them as early as possible.
